A Times Square digital takeover marked SK hynix's Nasdaq debut, turning a capital markets listing into a large-scale campaign

SK hynix marked its Nasdaq debut with a Times Square campaign spotlighting AI memory technology for next-generation data centres.

SK hynix has entered global capital markets with a listing that also served as a public showcase for its AI memory business.

The company's American depositary receipt (ADR) offering began trading on Nasdaq on 10 July and is scheduled to close on 14 July (US Eastern Time). The underlying common shares will also list on the Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) Market of the Korea Exchange on 29 July (Korea Time).

To mark the Nasdaq debut, SK hynix turned Times Square into a display of its AI memory ambitions.

The company used digital screens across the district to connect its brand to the semiconductors that support AI computing.

More than 40 digital screens carried a roadblock-style takeover, including a 30-second film built around the two meanings of "memory" – as semiconductor technology and as human experience.

The campaign used anamorphic 3D visuals, a technique that distorts perspective to create the illusion of depth, to make SK hynix's High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) product appear to extend beyond the screen.

The effect was designed to draw pedestrians into the district's busiest junctions, turning a routine listing announcement into a piece of large-scale public spectacle. By placing HBM products at the centre of the visuals, SK hynix aimed to make a highly technical product tangible to a broad audience rather than just industry specialists and investors.

The scale of the takeover – spanning dozens of screens simultaneously – also reflected the significance the company placed on the Nasdaq debut, treating it as a branding moment as much as a financial milestone.

Messaging built on trust

The Times Square activation followed an opening bell ceremony at Nasdaq MarketSite on 10 July, where SK hynix Chief Executive Officer Kwak Noh-Jung set out the company's priorities.

"I'd like to thank our investors and customers for their trust and support," he says. "Through continuous innovation, we will push the boundaries of what memory can achieve while empowering our employees to reach even greater accomplishments. SK hynix seeks to be wherever AI is, continually demonstrating our technology leadership," he adds.

Before the listing, SK hynix ran a global institutional investor roadshow across the US, Europe and Asia to present its position in the AI memory market. The roadshow gave the company an opportunity to brief institutional investors directly on its HBM roadmap and supply agreements ahead of the ADR launch, laying commercial groundwork for the more public-facing Times Square campaign that followed.

Running the roadshow and the Times Square activation in close succession allowed SK hynix to address two audiences at once: institutional investors assessing the company's financial position, and a wider public audience less familiar with the technical detail behind AI memory.

Positioning for AI infrastructure

The ADR listing gives SK hynix greater access to US capital markets and a wider international investor base.

The company said the move would support closer collaboration with global customers, investors and industry partners as demand for AI technologies continues to increase.

"This Times Square campaign introduced SK hynix's Nasdaq ADR trading debut to global markets while intuitively showing the future that memory, a core technology of the AI era, can help create," SK hynix says.

"Building on our differentiated AI memory technologies, we will continue working closely with global customers, investors and industry partners to pave the way for new possibilities for AI infrastructure."

The listing follows SK hynix's push to position HBM as central to its supply relationships with global technology customers building AI data centres. The roadshow, the Nasdaq debut and the Times Square campaign all took place within the same week, with the ADR offering closing on 14 July and the underlying shares set to list on the KOSPI Market of the Korea Exchange on 29 July.
