With over 500 million people using AI daily, Digital Snickers is reinventing the way Snickers connects with fans says Ashley Gill, Mars Brand & Content VP

Who knew that Snickers’ iconic “You’re Not You When You’re Hungry” slogan could apply to a Large Language Model (LLM)?

Snickers, owned by Mars, is taking a different direction in expanding its marketing segment in a way no other confectionary company has.

Targeting AI chatbots, of course.

Launched 31 August, Snickers Hungr.AI is giving users a digital version of its chocolate bar to feed AI assistants.

AI systems get hungry too… apparently

Snickers has designed the world’s first digital candy bar and encourages users to feed it to an AI assistant when it begins producing answers they are unhappy with, acting overly agreeable or responding in dissatisfactory ways.

Going beyond a simple image of a Snickers bar, the confectionary brand has embedded a code within the digital bar that provides a set of instructions.

Upon receiving the Digital Snickers, the chatbot is encouraged to reconsider the user’s question now that it’s had a satiating “byte” of the Snickers.

Key facts
  • Snickers has recently launched its Digital Snickers, the world's first candy bar for AI systems, to feed chatbots who are acting out.
  • It targets AI shortcomings, reframing issues like tech hallucinations, fabricated facts, and excessive agreeableness as a chatbot having "a hungry moment."
  • Approximately 6-8% of the world's population use AI everyday.
  • People who use Digital Snickers can claim their own, free Snickers bar via the Hungr.AI website.
  • The experimental launch aims to drive engagement in a digitally changing culture.

As AI technology increasingly integrates itself into everyday life, many individuals have experienced it acting out.

From making up facts with full confidence to urging people to proceed with the worst ideas possible, these tech mishaps have been rebranded by Snickers. Instead of tech hallucinations, they are a chatbot’s hungry moment.

The launch reflects a wider cultural change

Approximately 500-600 million people use AI daily, which represents 6-8% of the global population. This has surged massively over the last five years due to rapid advancements in technology and LLMs.

While a handy tool to have, AI machines are still learning and therefore unreliable at times. A research study conducted by Stanford shows that leading models such as ChatGPT produce wrong or fabricated answers more than 20% of the time.

The launch of Digital Snickers playfully responds to this by giving the LLMs a chance to reset after taking a “byte” from one of the world’s most loved candy bars.

Ashley Gill, Mars Snacking Brand & Content Vice President, comments: “As generative AI becomes part of everyday life, we’re playfully reinventing the way Snickers connects with our fans in today’s culture. Whether it’s a person losing their cool or an AI chatbot consistently agreeing with you, the truth hasn’t changed: when you’re not acting like yourself, we believe you maybe just need a Snickers.”

As a way to give back to consumers that engage in the Digital Snickers initiative, individuals that feed its chatbots hunger can claim a free, real life Snickers.

The Digital Snickers can be accessed via the Snickers Hungr.AI website with instructions on how to use it and then instructions on how individuals can claim their own Snickers bar.

The experimental marketing approach is a creative way to encourage consumers, as Snickers dares to be different from something no other confectionary company has done before.

Who are Mars' key partners?

  • Google Cloud – Mars expanded its strategic partnership with Google Cloud in April 2026, naming Gemini Enterprise the primary AI operating system for its global workforce. The rollout gives Associates agentic AI tools across Petcare, Snacking, and Food & Nutrition, unlocking company knowledge through unified search while building on a long-standing digital transformation partnership between the two companies.
  • Strava –  Mars's IAMS pet nutrition brand partnered with Strava in April 2026 to help pet owners track walks and activities with their dogs via a new "Pet Tag" feature. Part of the "Better Cities for Pets" program, it aims to boost pet-friendly spaces, noting 76% of pet-owning Strava users say pets motivate them to move more.
  • NYX Cosmetics – Mars entered the beauty space by partnering with cosmetics brand NYX Professional Makeup, launching the limited-edition M&M's "Smushy Surprize" matte lip balms. Announced in May 2026, the collaboration taps into TikTok's unboxing-collectibles trend, aiming to keep Mars's confectionery brands relevant with younger, social-first consumers. It mirrors a wider industry shift toward pop-culture crossovers, similar to KitKat's Formula 1 tie-up and Ferrero's FIFA World Cup partnership.
  • Publicis Groupe – In June 2025, Mars unveiled a new global agency ecosystem following an agency review, centering Publicis Groupe alongside Omnicom and IPG to power the next generation of its brand-building efforts. Publicis CEO Arthur Sadoun called it a rekindling of a longstanding partnership. The overhaul aims to reimagine Mars's consumer business playbook, putting consumers and pet owners at the center of brand experiences.
