Monzo Scales European Marketing Through Adclear

Monzo is extending its partnership with compliance platform Adclear to all three of its live markets as it accelerates European growth following its full banking licence from the European Central Bank and Central Bank of Ireland at the end of last year.
The rollout covers websites, social media, advertising, in-app content and outbound communications for Monzo’s current accounts, joint accounts, business accounts and savings pots.
“Great marketing earns trust rather than claiming it, and everything we put out has to live up to the promises we make to our customers,” says AJ Coyne, Chief Marketing Officer at Monzo. “It also has to move at the pace we do. That's where Adclear comes in.”
Embedding compliance into the creative process
Adclear gives Monzo a shared workflow configured to the regulatory framework of each geography, enabling consistent group-level governance with local flexibility.
“Marketers in regulated industries have been conditioned to think of compliance as a bottleneck, but this is really just because it sits at the end of the creative process," Doni Hoti, CEO of Adclear, exclusively tells Marketing Chief. "You make the content, and it sits in a long compliance queue whilst deadlines tick by.
“What Adclear gives marketers is peace of mind. Embedding compliance into the creative process means content is significantly less likely to contain errors, making sign-off quicker: it’s a check, rather than a hurdle.
"Our work with Monzo has tripled first-time approval rates; this means marketing and compliance spend less time on back-and-forth and more time delivering impactful content that builds trust with customers.
"This is particularly crucial for Monzo as it expands into new markets.”

Streamlining creative workflows
Adclear embeds compliance checks directly into the creative workflow, analysing content in real time and flagging changes needed to meet each jurisdiction’s rules. Legal and compliance teams retain final oversight, supported by a detailed audit trail of reviews, edits and approvals.
Since introducing Adclear in the UK, Monzo has reduced its compliance approval process by nearly 82% and tripled its first-time approval rate. The bank is now applying the same AI-powered technology in Ireland, where it launched in April 2026, and in Spain as it builds a pan-European marketing engine.
According to AJ, the use of Adclear means the company’s teams “can create boldly and ship fast, knowing compliance is built in from the start rather than bolted on at the end.”
