Lloyds Rolls Out Microsoft E7 to 28 Million Customers

Lloyds Banking Group has confirmed a new multi-year partnership with Microsoft to deploy agentic AI tools across its operations. The financial institution will implement Microsoft 365 E7 across the entire organisation.
The bank will be among the first financial services providers in the UK to roll out the suite company-wide. Lloyds serves more than 28 million customers across its digital banking platforms.
The deployment is designed to scale AI tools within the bank's existing security and governance framework. The aim is to support faster and more personalised services for customers whilst maintaining strict regulatory compliance standards required in financial services.
Microsoft 365 E7 combines Microsoft 365 E5, Microsoft 365 Copilot and Agent 365 into one system. The solution runs on Work IQ and includes Microsoft Entra Suite for identity and access management.
The package also contains Microsoft Defender, Intune and Purview security capabilities to maintain data compliance. These integrated security features are critical for protecting customer financial data and meeting Financial Conduct Authority requirements.
Microsoft Copilot already active
The bank previously deployed 40,000 Microsoft 365 Copilot licences across the organisation. According to Microsoft, 97% of licensed staff now actively use the software on a regular basis.
Lloyds has also extended its use of GitHub Copilot to more than 10,000 engineers working on digital banking development. The next phase will introduce a colleague assistant to help staff access systems and information in one place.
The digital assistant is intended to free up employee time and streamline internal processes across multiple departments. Lloyds is developing additional AI agents focused on specific colleague and customer journeys throughout the banking experience.
These tools are built on Agent 365 for control and orchestration. The system ensures all autonomous agents operate within regulatory boundaries for the banking sector.
The deployment could reduce time employees spend on administrative tasks significantly. By automating routine queries and basic customer requests, workers can focus on more complex customer service interactions that require human judgement.
Ron van Kemenade, Group Chief Operations Officer at Lloyds Banking Group, says: "We're embedding agentic AI across Lloyds Banking Group to make banking simpler, faster and more personalised for customers. It means quicker answers and more intuitive services, while helping our colleagues spend more time on the things that matter most. Over time, this will help us deliver more seamless experiences for the millions of customers we serve every day."
Banking sector adopts automation
Financial institutions worldwide are adopting automated systems to manage growing transaction volumes and customer expectations. Many are moving away from basic chatbots toward integrated cognitive platforms that can handle more sophisticated interactions.
This allows organisations to handle compliance checks and regulatory reporting without constant human intervention. Financial regulators are monitoring how large organisations govern autonomous systems and ensure customer protection.
The integration of Microsoft Purview within the E7 suite could help Lloyds address regulatory expectations around data governance and AI transparency.
Darren Hardman, CEO of Microsoft UK & Ireland, says: "Lloyds Banking Group has long been a pioneer in financial services, consistently using technology to serve their colleagues and customers better. The adoption of Microsoft 365 E7 across the Group will help them deliver on their bold vision and we look forward to working closely with them to help their colleagues and customers maximise the benefits of agentic AI at scale."
Early data from the initial Copilot rollout suggests staff are eager to use automated tools in their daily workflows. The collaboration moves the Group from productivity gains to agent-led transformation across customer-facing and back-office operations.
