Heinz Crafts New Love Language with Ketchup Lidâs Rebrand

After dominating the ketchup game for more than 150 years, others might have slowed down on the productâs marketing. But not Heinz. In a battle against depleting sales, the condiment company has largely invested in its brand positioning for 2026.
Steve Cahillane, CEO of the Kraft Heinz Company highlights that its reputation is not enough to keep relevant, it has to âearn the right each and every day to be in that shopping basket, particularly when budgets are so constrained.â
Combining this strategy redirection with the recent announcement that Kraft Heinz has poured an extra US$100m into its marketing budget shows the fight to remain a reputable brand that consumers canât help but go back to at every purchase point.
But what does the company plan to do with its fresh multi-million dollar budget? Reimagine its ketchup bottle and design the first ever customisable lid, of course.
Whatâs your Heinz love language?
Now available in the US and the UK, the brand is debuting its Heinz Love Lid just in time for barbecue season. Its new ketchup bottle lid will allow consumers to adjust the amount of ketchup dispensed based on personal preference. The first ever customisable lid comes with âlike, love or crazy loveâ options and depends on consumersâ preferences and food of choice.
The innovation is inspired by debates that have been sparked online surrounding how much ketchup is âcorrectâ to use on foods such as chips and hot dogs, encouraging consumers to squeeze to their heartâs content.
Nina Patel, Vice President, Global Heinz at the Kraft Heinz Company, comments: âWe all experience love differently and our fansâ connection to ketchup is no exception. People have deeply personal rituals around how much ketchup they squeeze, and we celebrate every one of them.â
The new customisable lid is Heinzâs latest innovative idea and follows the release of its âDipper French Fry Boxâ and the âRemix Sauce Machineâ campaigns.
As the brand continues to introduce new dispensing formats for its dips, Heinz is developing its packaging identity with the aim to encourage sales to gain traction once again.
We all experience love differently and our fans’ connection to ketchup is no exception."
A continued battle for sales
The rollout of the new Love Lid comes after the drop in sales revelation. While the marketing budget is typically neglected in times like these, Kraft Heinz is calling it an act of confidence.
A key indicator towards a decline in sales surrounds the struggle people are facing in the current economic climate, with many consumers opting for the cheaper, supermarketâs own brand items during their food shops.
After increasing the marketing budget, Kraft Heinz seems to be experiencing a sales turnover, with its CEO Steve adding: âThis is proof that our brands respond well when we invest behind them.â
Seeing how consumers respond to the customisable feature that can now be found on Heinzâs ketchup bottles is detrimental to the direction the brandâs sales will take, but so far social media reception has been positive around the new product.
As it continues its roll out and more consumers become aware of the add-on available, it is hoped it will contribute to further boosting Heinzâs sales.
The Love Lid will be rolled out as part of a limited-time âGrilling Seasonâ bundle available exclusively online in the US and the UK. Each bundle will include one bottle of Heinz Tomato Ketchup, one Love Lid and a handout that shows the suggested squeeze based on consumersâ summer eats.
