Coursera Names Amy Weisenbach Chief Marketing Officer

Coursera has announced the appointment of Amy Weisenbach as its new Chief Marketing Officer after close to a decade at The New York Times.
She will join the learning platform at the end of November.
āAt Coursera, Iām excited to help learners around the world find the skills and knowledge that move them forward,ā says Amy of her appointment.
āThis mission feels deeply personal to me. Having taught as an adjunct professor, and now serving on the Board of Trustees at DePauw University, Iāve seen how quickly the path from learning to opportunity is changing.
āAnd leading a large team, Iāve lived it firsthand: figuring out how we adopt AI ourselves, and how to help the team build the skills to use it well. How people keep learning across their careers has never mattered more.ā
Marketing and education experience
Amy first joined The New York Times in 2017, as the companyās Vice President of Brand. She then progressed to roles as a Senior Vice President of Marketing, and Head of Marketing, before taking on the Chief Marketing Officer role in September 2024.
In this role, she led marketing across its content portfolio, including News, Games, Cooking, Audio, Wirecutter, and The Athletic.
Over the course of her tenure, she helped to accelerate the companyās digitally-led transformation by combining brand storytelling with performance marketing ā attracting new audiences, deepening engagement and, ultimately, driving subscription growth.
During this time, Amy also helped to introduce and expand the reach of new products for The New York Times, and led globally recognised campaigns designed to demonstrate the value of trusted journalism.
āWhen I joined in 2017, The Times had about two million subscribers. Today it has more than 13 million, each one a person who decided that quality, independent journalism is worth paying for,ā says Amy. āHelping make that case has been the privilege of my career.
āIāve often said our job was a little meta: telling the story of the worldās best storytellers, and trying to match the craft of Times journalism in everything we made.
āIām so proud of the work we did together, from campaigns that put real subscribers and reporters at the center, to building a marketing team that grew alongside The Times itself.ā
