CMO Summit to Explore the Expanding Role of the Modern CMO

Will you be attending the CMO Summit?
Taking place on October 8 – the second day of the two-day CXO Summit– the CMO Summit panel is designed to bring together senior marketing leaders, examining strategic priorities, cross functional alignment and marketing’s impact on wider commercial importance.
Those in attendance will gain key insights into how marketers can demonstrate measurable value at board level, strengthen collaboration across the C-suite, build resilient brands and develop the leadership capabilities required to drive sustainable growth.
Also taking place on the second day of the CXO Summit is the CFO Summit – a flagship discussion addressing the evolving role of the CFO – a panel on the AI-ready workforce featuring Lisette Danesi, Chief People Officer, Corporate Functions, of WPP and The Future of People and Skills Panel discussion, with insights from Tom Simons, Chief HR and OD Officer of NHS England.
The role of Chief Marketing Officers today
As economic pressures, digital acceleration and stakeholder scrutiny intensify, the role of the CMO continues to expand in scope and influence. But delivering on high expectations can be a challenge.
Research from Gartner finds that more than half of CMOs (56%) say their marketing organisation lacks the budget required to deliver their 2026 strategy, while 54% report that they have insufficient resources.
This resource gap, Gartner says, is forcing CMOs to make โsharperโ decisions about where is best to invest and what they should deprioritise โ with a focus on allocating resources towards the capabilities that could generate the greatest business impact.
“CMOs are being asked to deliver growth, efficiency and transformation without meaningful budget expansion,” says Ewan McIntyre, VP Analyst and Chief of Research in the Gartner Marketing practice. “Those who succeed will make deliberate, data-driven trade-offs and treat AI as a force multiplier.”
