Footwear group Caleres confirms its new finance chief amid its US$667m sales forecast and multi-brand portfolio strategy for first quarter results

Caleres has confirmed Dan Karpel as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, ending an interim period that began in January 2026.

The New York-listed company operates a portfolio that includes Famous Footwear, Sam Edelman, Stuart Weitzman, Allen Edmonds, Naturalizer and Vionic.

Dan will serve as both principal financial officer and principal accounting officer with immediate effect.

The appointment comes as the footwear group prepares to report first quarter results on 4 June, with projected total sales of US$667m and earnings per diluted share between US$0.39 and US$0.41.

Dan rejoined Caleres in October 2025 as Chief Accounting Officer after previously holding senior finance roles at the business.

He spent three decades in accounting and financial leadership positions, including CFO roles at Club Car Wash Operating and CW Holdings, and Chief Accounting roles at Eyecare Partners, Spectrum Brands Holdings and Brown Shoe Company.

Finance leadership confirmed

"Dan's deep understanding of our company, combined with his extensive financial and accounting expertise, has made him a valuable strategic partner since rejoining Caleres and taking the role of interim CFO," says Jay Schmidt, President and CEO of Caleres.

β€œHis leadership and commitment to driving results as our CFO will be instrumental as we continue to advance our growth strategy.”

His prior experience at Brown Shoe Company, the former name of Caleres, brings direct experience of the business to the finance function.

Dan's familiarity with reporting processes and brand structure supports financial discipline across retail stores, wholesale partnerships and ecommerce platforms.

His external leadership experience at companies including Eyecare Partners and Spectrum Brands Holdings adds a perspective beyond the footwear sector.

Brand portfolio distribution model

Caleres distributes its products through more than 1,000 retail stores, alongside department stores, specialty retailers and digital platforms.

The multi-channel approach exposes the company to both direct-to-consumer and wholesale segments.

Famous Footwear operates as the retail brand within the portfolio.

Sam Edelman, Stuart Weitzman, Allen Edmonds, Naturalizer and Vionic function as product brands distributed through multiple channels.

Financial oversight accounts for differing margin profiles across these distribution methods.

Digital commerce continues to reshape how consumers purchase footwear, affecting channel mix over time.

The portfolio strategy relies on brand differentiation across price points and consumer segments.

Famous Footwear targets value-oriented shoppers, while Stuart Weitzman and Allen Edmonds position at higher price tiers.

Earnings focus ahead

The first quarter earnings release scheduled for 4 June will precede market opening.

Investors will receive commentary on margin performance, cost management and channel distribution alongside the financial results.

The US$667m sales projection indicates performance at the start of the financial year. According to Caleres, adjusted earnings per diluted share are expected between US$0.35 and US$0.37 for the quarter.

Dan now enters the role with visibility over upcoming results and responsibility for financial reporting across the brand portfolio.
